Maintenance

What is Maintenance Physiotherapy?

Maintenance physiotherapy is an essential aspect of physiotherapy that focuses on sustaining optimal health and function in animals that may not be recovering from an injury or surgery but require ongoing support to prevent issues and enhance their quality of life. Unlike prehabilitation, rehabilitation or performance-focused programmes, maintenance cases are centered on preserving your animal's current condition and preventing the onset of future problems.

Key Objectives of Maintenance Cases:

1

Injury Prevention

Maintenance physiotherapy aims to identify and address any subtle imbalances or weaknesses that could predispose the animal to injuries. By proactively managing these factors, we can help ensure long-term soundness.

2

Sustaining Functionality

For animals engaged in regular activity or those in their senior years, maintenance therapy focuses on preserving mobility, flexibility, and overall physical function. This is especially important for working or performance animals, as well as pets that may be prone to age-related issues.

3

Enhancing Quality of Life

Maintenance physiotherapy contributes to an animal's overall well-being by promoting comfort and reducing pain. This is particularly beneficial for animals with chronic conditions or those recovering form previous injuries.

Components of a Maintenance Physiotherapy session:

  • Regular Assessments

Maintenance sessions, as all sessions, will begin with a thorough assessment to evaluate your animal's          current physical condition.

  • Customised Exercise Plans

Based on the assessment, I can develop tailored exercise programs that focus on maintaining strength,        flexibility, and balance. These exercises are designed to be engaging and appropriate for the animal's        fitness level and lifestyle.

  • Manual Therapy

Different massage techniques, stretching and dynamic mobilisation will be incorporated to relieve tension and improve circulation, contributing to the animal's overall comfort and well-being.

  • Education and Guidance

I provide you with information on at-home care strategies, including exercises and activities that can            help maintain their animal's health between sessions. Encouraging you to take an active role in your            animal's ongoing care.

  • Monitoring and Adjustments

Regular follow-ups allow for continuous monitoring of your animal's condition. If any issues arise or if            the animal's activity level changes, the maintenance plan can be adjusted accordingly to ensure                    optimal results.
