Prehabilitation
What Is Prehabilitation?
Injury Prevention.
Prehabilitation, often referred to as "prehab", is a proactive approach aimed at enhancing an animal's physical condition and overall well-being.

Prehabilitation involves implementing tailored exercise programmes, manual therapies and other supportive interventions to improve an animal's strength, flexibility, and joint range of motion. This proactive strategy not only prepares the animal's body for the demands of surgery or rehabilitation but also helps mitigate the risk of injury and enhance overall perfromance.

Key Benefits of Prehabilitation:

Injury Prevention
Prehab focuses on correcting any biomechanical issues or weaknesses that may predispose an animal to injury. By addressing these factors early, we can reduce the likelihood of future injuries.

Enhanced Recovery
By strengthening the muscles and improving joint stability, prehab can lead to faster recovery times post-injury. A well-prepared animal is more likely to respond positively to treatment and rehab.

Improved Performance
Prehab can enhance athletic capabilities by optimising physical fitness, flexibility and endurance. Ensuring the animal is in peak condition for competition, work or day to day life.

Increased Confidence
Animals that undergo prehab often experience improved physical confidence, which can positively impact their behaviour and willingness to engage in activities.
How do I Know if This is Right for my Animal?

This will benefit everyone.
I will assess your animal's current physical condition, involving gait analysis, palpation and range of motion. Based on this assessment, I develop a customised treatment plan that may include:
-
Manual Therapies - techniques including massage, stretching and joint mobilisation to alleviate tension and improve function.
-
Strengthening Exercises - targeting specific muscle groups to improve overall stability and support.
-
Flexibility Training - enhancing range of motion through stretching, mobility exercises and reducing muscle tension.
-
Balance & Coordination Drills - improving proprioception and balance to reduce the risk of falls and injuries.

Prehabilitation prevents injury.... and may save a pretty penny on a hefty vet bill!
